part 3 // Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars

Several of the wine enthusiasts I am connected with on Instagram recommended wines from Lamoreaux Landing and I was so happy to see that it was right down the road from Wagner! Let me tell you, the tasting experience at Lamoreaux was truly VIP. Due to Covid-19, the normal operation of the vineyard has been modified. They have a tent set up outside for tastings and walk ins. However, they have a few tables in their indoor tasting room available and we were lucky enough to have our tasting there. We had the entire indoor tasting area and upper deck to ourselves, making the experience unmatchable.

The 2018 Dry Riesling

Lam Landing

The view from the balcony! How gorgeous!!

To add to the incredible atmosphere, our tasting guide was the Vice President, Josh. He allowed our group to lead the tasting ourselves but was readily available with his extensive knowledge of the winery to address any questions. In addition to the incredible wines, the measures taken to ensure that our group had the best tasting experience offered truly set Lamoreaux Landing apart. Speaking of the incredible wines, here are the ones that I tried along with some brief notes! The ones marked with a star (*) are the ones that we brought home. There will be full wine reviews for each one in the future!

2018 Dry Riesling *

This wine was poured for our entire group to start the tasting. It was definitely a perfect pick for a first impression! This wine is a little bit racy with slate minerality at the start and ends with tart lime curd flavor on a long, enjoyable finish.

2018 Round Rock Riesling *

I can understand why this single vineyard Riesling is highly rated by experts at wine competitions! There is a delicate flavor intensity on the tongue that bounces notes of pears and black stone around your mouth. Both the high acid and the light body of the wine help to deliver the flavors. This wine is another example of why I love the Finger Lakes – each Riesling is so excellent and can be very unique, with only a few miles between vineyards.

2017 Gewürztraminer (Dry)

This wine smells very spicy and sweet, but on the palate, it is dry. This is a very common trait for Finger Lakes Gewürztraminer. Here I smelled ginger and tangerines. They both came through in the high acid, creamy body.

2018 T23 Unoaked Cabernet Franc *

Cabernet Franc thrives in the Finger Lakes, in addition to Riesling. In this wine, there are elegant, tart flavors of cranberry, cherry and mossy earth. It is representative of Finger Lakes red wines. It is dry, lighter in body and alcohol. Here reds tend to be more reserved in style, but still have bold attributes that bridge the gap between warm and cool climate. This was one of my favorite wines of the day, because it was excellently made, as proven by the long finish and because I had opportunity for a vertical tasting comparison. This means that one is able to compare multiple vintages produced from the same grape vines over different growing seasons.

2015 T23 Unoaked Cabernet Franc *

At Lamoreaux Landing, they save a select number of wines from excellent vintage years and add them to the ‘Library Wines’ list. When I saw that the T23 Cabernet Franc 2015 vintage was on it, I knew I had to do a comparison. Compared to 2018, 2015 was a warm growing year, allowing the grapes the best chance to reach their full potential. I can confirm, that after 5 years of aging, this wine was excellent and I believe it will only continue to get better over the next few years. Drinking it made me want summer to be over and autumn to start. It smelled like the leaves on a sunny, crisp fall afternoon. The tartness of cranberry and orange mellowed out into more of a jam flavor. This wine is also well made because the flavor lasted in my mouth for a long time.

The 2018 T23 Cabernet Franc

Lam Landing

The 2015 T23 Cabernet Franc - it is darker in color than the 2018. A sign of aging in red wines.

As I am sure you can tell by my reviews, the wine and experience at Lamoreaux Landing were both excellent. The sweet wine lovers in our party enjoyed the 2019 Moscato. The 2017 Semi-Dry Riesling and the 2017 76 West were also hits with a couple of my family members.

After our tasting, we ordered the bottles we wanted to bring home and took in the incredible views of Seneca Lake from the tasting room balcony. It was apparent throughout the entire experience that excellence is a standard at Lamoreaux Landing. I highly recommend making a stop if you are in the area. I know I will be going back soon! Until then, you can order from their website and get $5 flat rate shipping to 23 states!
