Do you have a wine loving friend or family member that you’re shopping for, but don’t quite know what to get? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! Since it can be difficult and expensive to legally ship alcohol, here is a list of 7 non-alcoholic gift ideas.
The first step to enjoying any wine is to open the bottle! Some may have a twist top, but many have a cork. Here are a few corkscrew options, which will ensure your wine lover can open the bottle in style. All of these options also include a foil cutter, a helpful tool for a clean cork removal!
Ozeri Nouveaux Electric ($20)
Wine Enthusiast Electric Blue Automatic ($50 – Customizable!)
Le Creuset Lever Style Corkscrew ($100)
In addition to the corkscrew, a nice set of wine glasses is a great idea. One of the best brands for wine glasses is Riedel. If you decide to buy from them, it is helpful to know your wine lover‘s favorite type of wine (Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, etc.). Riedel engineers their glasses to provide the best tasting experience for specific varietals of wine. If you aren’t sure what their favorite is, here are some standard options that are applicable to most red or white wines.
Vivant 4pk White Wine Glasses ($40)
Vivant 4pk Red Wine Glasses ($40)
Performance Tasting Set ($120) – This is a set of 4 different glasses that cover the major varietals! Your wine lover would have the perfect glass for any wine they decide to buy.
A couple ways to get the most out of red wine is to use an aerator or a decanter! Both of these options help the wine ‘open up’ to reach their full potential.
Aerators
Aerating Pourer ($20 - pictured)
Decantus Aerator & Stand ($50 – from Rochester, NY’s Living Roots Wine Co.)
Aervana Electric Aerator & Dispenser ($100)
Decanters
Cathy’s Concepts Aerating Wine Decanter ($35) – Customizable!
Le Chateau Crystal Glass Decanter ($40)
Le Sens Amazing Home Scorpion Decanter ($60)
While most red wines should be served at room temperature, white and sparkling wines should be served around 40°-55°F. A handy way to enjoy white and sparkling wine at the proper temperature is using a wine bottle chiller!
Enoluxe Wine Chiller Bucket ($30)
Vinglacé Wine Bottle Insulator ($90)
In my opinion, every wine enthusiast should have a Coravin. Once the cork is taken out of the bottle, wine starts aging because it is in contact with oxygen and therefore, should be finished within 24 hours of opening. The Coravin allows the cork to remain in the bottle. When using the Coravin, the wine is poured out of the bottle by putting a hollow needle through the cork. As the wine is being poured out, a food grade, safe, gas is added into the bottle to provide a seal between the wine and age promoting oxygen. It is extremely useful in helping the wine maintain its original balance and allows the wine to be enjoyed over a longer period of time.
Coravin Gas Capsules 2pk ($20)
Coravin Needle Kit 3pk ($70)
Coravin Model 3 ($200) – This is a base model. There are plenty of deluxe options too!
A good book on one of the many wine world topics is another great gift idea. Here are a few of my favorites.
The Wine Bible by Karen MacNeil ($20)
Wine Food: New Adventures in Drinking & Cooking by Andrea Slonecker ($20)
That Cheese Plate Will Change Your Life by Marissa Mullen ($25) – All about charcuterie board building!
Wine Folly: Magnum Edition by Madeline Puckette & Justin Hammack ($30)
Lastly, if you can, try to support your local wine businesses by buying gift cards or wine club memberships! Right now especially, small businesses are depending on us to keep them going. If you need suggestions, I visited a couple excellent wineries on Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake this summer; maybe try these!
At the end of the day, I am sure that no matter what you decide to buy your wine lover, it will be a gift they will love! Happy Holidays!

Hi Emma! Thank you for the great gift suggestions! I have another book suggestion for you: “Summer in a Glass” by Evan Dawson. The subtitle is: “The coming of age of winemaking in the Finger Lakes”. I couldn’t put it down! After reading it, I wanted to visit each winery and meet the people that I had just read about. You will DEFINITELY want to schedule a tasting with Johannes Reinhardt at Kemmeter Wines in Penn Yan! His enthusiasm for wine making is contagious. Thank you for your informative blog, and I hope you and your family have a meaningful Christmas season! ~ M. Pipes
