Chateau Ste. Michelle Horse Heaven Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

I’m convinced that this is the wine equivalent to lemonade. It is tart, bursting with lemon and it is the perfect companion on any hot summer day. When I tasted this wine, there were strong aromas of citrus and subtle notes of green grass. It has a medium body, high acid and dances off your tongue to keep you coming back for another sip. This wine was briefly aged in oak and put through a process called sur lie to help add complexity, creaminess and body.

It would pair well with goat cheese, oysters, white fish or chicken. If you like this wine, I would also suggest trying a dry Riesling or an Albariño.

For a Sauvignon Blanc, this one is out of the ordinary. Usually Sauvignon Blanc has a medium acidity and there is a greater presence of mineral and green (bell pepper, grass, etc.) aromas. Innovative, bold wines come from what is called the ‘New World’, aka anything that is not from Europe. So, it is not a surprise that this one is made in Washington State at Chateau Ste. Michelle.

Don’t worry! No horses were harmed in the making of this wine. Horse Heaven Hills is a region within the Columbia River Valley in the southeastern corner of Washington. Chateau Ste. Michelle plants only Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc grapes in their Horse Heaven Hills Vineyard. The soil and dry climate definitely contribute to the distinctiveness of this sauvignon blanc!
